VINTAGE 1963 CORVETTE STINGRAY SPLIT WINDOW ~ HOFBAUER GERMANY ~ CRYSTAL GLASS PAPERWEIGHT
This week on Ebay we are offering up this very nice, very elegant, 1963 Split-window Chevrolet Corvette glass paperweight.
It’s a beauty! Looks terrific and displays great! This is a very artistic and very high quality crystal replica of the iconic ’63 Vette sports car.
It is in perfect pristine condition with no flaws, chips, cracks, scratches or blemishes. Displays great!
It is made of 24% lead content, crystal glass by the fine artisans at Hofbauer in West Germany. It was made in the mid 1980s and released by the Formen (For Men) company here in America.
It is very nicely designed, looks beautiful and displays great. It is the nicer version of the 2 different styles they offered and has what they called a ‘Satin’ finish.
I looks very cool, with a frosted glass engine and interior underneath the clear outer shell. A very nicely done crystal glass car. The cheaper version was all-clear, without the inner details being frosted.
It is about 7” in length, 3” wide and quite heavy as it is made of high quality, high lead content crystal. It has great detail and makes artful use of both clear and frosted glass to bring out the details of the car. Very cool and it obviously involved some thought and planning.
It comes with its original box and packing. It comes with a nice black wooden display stand that has the name of the vehicle on the front.
These beautiful crystal Corvettes pop up on Ebay now and then, but rarely have the box and wooden base with them. This one is complete. I think the black base enhances the clear glass design of the car and makes it look great on display.
This would make a wonderful gift for the corvette or sports car fan in your life. Cool to have on your desk, in your cubicle at work or on display on a shelf in your man-cave. A great gift and nice enough to keep for yourself!

The vintage 1963 Corvette Stingray split-window coupe is a classic sports car, well known, instantly recognized and highly coveted. The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray took the world by storm. The ‘63 Vette is considered one of America’s first true sports cars and is a classic.
THE 1963 CHEVY CORVETTE STINGRAY
1963 saw the release of the famous split-window Corvette coupe. The ‘63 Split-Window Sting Ray is a marvel car to look at, and it's instantly recognizable on the road. It has the high end style, a classic C2 Corvette design, and is sought after by many Corvette enthusiasts.
1963 was the only year for the split-window coupe and it was the first Corvette coupe ever made.
The iconic 1963 Corvette coupe was originally designed by Larry Shinoda. Chevrolet’s Chief of Design at the time was Billy Mitchell, and he was adamant about continuing the distinct Sting Ray center line from the car's nose straight back to the rear end. The split rear window was one of Mitchell's "pet projects," and he had a famous heated debate with engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov over its practicality. The center bar in the rear window totally obstructed the driver’s view, a safety concern, and was removed by the next model year.
Engine choices in 1963 ranged from 250 horsepower to the massive 360 horsepower fuel injected L84 model. The car came with a standard 3 speed, but could be upgraded to a 4-speed or even an automatic. 1963 was also the first year the car was called The Stingray, named after the fish. The animal’s fins, shape and symmetry are clearly reflected in the design of the car.
The 1963 Corvette had twin hood vents, which looked great, but really didn’t add any performance. It also featured nifty hideaway headlights.
Power brakes, power steering, power windows, and air conditioning were added options.
Only 10,000 were made and they are highly sought after today.
The ‘Z06’ option pack was also available in 1963. That added a fuel-injected engine, heavy duty suspension, aluminum wheels, heavy duty brakes, a larger gas tank, and limited slip rear end. Only about 200 1963 Corvettes came with that package and are very rare today, commanding in excess of 0K.
